Maryland Launches 11th Brick-and-Mortar Sportsbook

The landscape has welcomed another brick-and-mortar sportsbook into the fold.

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission today issued a sports betting facility license to Canton Gaming and its operating partner Parx Interactive. The betParx sportsbook has opened and is live at the Greene Turtle restaurant in the Canton Section of Baltimore.

It s the eleventh retail sportsbook to open in the Old Line State.

Canton Successfully Completed Demonstrations

According to the lottery commission, Canton Gaming and Parx Interactive successfully completed controlled demonstrations at the Greene Turtle restaurant on Aug. 28 and Aug. 30. The restaurant hosted customers who participated in live sports betting as Maryland Lottery and Gaming staff ensured the sportsbook complied with all required procedures and regulations.

The betParx sportsbook s systems functioned properly and the license was awarded.

The Greene Turtle sportsbook is now the eleventh live brick-and-mortar sportsbook to open in Maryland. The other 10 are:

Caesars Sportsbook (operator for CZR Maryland Mobile Opportunity/Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore)

Fantatics Sportsbook (operator for Maryland Stadium Sub, LLC)
FanDuel (operator for PPE Maryland Mobile/Live! Casino and Hotel in Hanover)
PointsBet (operator for Riverboat on the Potomac in Charles County)

According  to the commission, additional online sports betting operators and retail sportsbooks are expected to launch in the near future.

Maryland Fiscal Year Sports Betting

According to the commission, from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023, Maryland sports betting contributed more than $25.2 million to the state s Blueprint for Maryland s Future Fund, which support public education programs.

An additional $2.09 million in expired sports betting prizes were paid to the Maryland Problem Gambling Fund, which support responsible gambling programs, including no-cost counseling for state residents.
