Music! Everyone loves music. Lists! Everyone loves lists. Hit the deck. Jamie xx, In Colour The first time I heard this album, I was biking home way too late through one of those glorious, infernal, motionless, 100-degree California summer nights, heading back from some barbecue or river party or something, and I was probably a little sweaty and drunk, and the opening bumps of “Gosh” came on, and everything just kinda clicked, like one of those hokey scenes from teen movies, except this movie has Young Thug in it, which made everything even better. -Patrick Redford Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, “You Know We Can’t Go Back” Another brilliant, fundamentally sound rock song from England’s Most Charming Asshole. -Drew Magary Justin Bieber, “Sorry” Where are you now? Some people are fans of the Seattle Seahawks. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Seattle Seahawks. This 2012 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read the other Why Your Team Sucks 2012 previews here. 1. Dude, if you can't beat out Tarvaris Jackson for the starting job… The Seahawks gave Matt Flynn $10 million in guaranteed money based off of one de facto exhibition game against Detroit and now head coach Pete Carroll says that Tarvaris Jackson still has the "advantage" in the QB competition going into training camp. That's not a good sign. The fine people at Walter Football have also kindly pointed out that new Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin (who coached Flynn in Green Bay) had a chance to sign Flynn in the offseason and demurr…
In case you missed it, here was the AFC preview. Now it’s time for Andy Behrens and I to take on the NFC. Off we go. http://deadspin.com/5834380/the-2011-haters-guide-to-fantasy-football-+-afc Eagles: Before you cream your pants taking Michael Vick No. 1, remember that he nearly got killed in Week 16 last season when Minnesota decided to corner blitz the shit out of him. There’s a lingering danger that teams have perhaps “solved” Vick, not to mention the fact that he openly refuses to slide and therefore constantly subjects himself to injury. What a fucking idiot. Vick was also terribly inaccurate against Pittsburgh last week. Of course, when he’s on, he’s two fantasy players in one. So that’ll tease your dick real good. DeSean is a top ten wideout, and is doubly motiv…
data-mm-id=”_6xeleiij1″>The Denver Broncos weren't the only ones to feel the wrath of Percy Harvin at Super Bowl XLVIII. The retired NFL receiver recently opened up to Bleacher Report's Master Tesfatsion in latter's online series about his challenges with an anxiety disorder. Harvin opened the segment by remarking that there wasn't "a game that I played in that I wasn't high", revealing he used marijuana to cope with the disorder during games. After four seasons with his original employers in Minnesota, Harvin joined the Seattle Seahawks via a trade in the spring of 2013. Plenty was going on in Seattle at the time: the fearsome secondary, known as the "Legion of Boom" was at the height of its powers, while the offense was led by Russell Wils…
data-mm-id=”_vxxazwzfn”>With each week, the field of teams worthy of the College Football Playoff is narrowing. Last week, Oregon was culled from the herd thanks to its inexplicable loss to conference "rival" Arizona State. The week before, Minnesota lost its playoff case after losing to Iowa in the Floyd of Rosedale game.Only three undefeated teams remain –Ohio State, LSU, and Clemson — and barring any freak slip-ups, they all look like locks to reach the final four. The fourth and final spot is still up for grabs. Georgia holds it for the time being, though whether they truly deserve it is up for debate after squeaking by Texas A&M by six points despite being outgained 273-260 in total offense. What follows is out look at the teams sitting outside the current top four…
data-mm-id=”_pkihcjicz”>David Ortiz has remained understandably out of the public eye in the months since he was in the hospital last summer after getting shot in the Dominican Republic. Ortiz is now having an estate sale this coming Saturday and listed photos of all the items he's planning on offloading at his home in Weston. Since it's an estate sale, that means literally everything in there. There's lots of run-of-the-mill house decor within the listing, but there are a handful of fun and interesting items hidden in there. Since you are a busy person, I have gone through and found the most intriguing/odd items for sale from the Ortiz family. You're welcome. These include, but are not limited to, the following (links included for the weird ones): – A barrel that d…
data-mm-id=”_7ehzedhuk”>The NFL, in its infinite wisdom, allowed the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs to play a football game on Monday night after Cam Newton's positive COVID test. Which was certainly a risk, but apparently one the league was perfectly fine taking. Allow the very smart Bill Barnwell to explain:The NFL playing this Patriots-Chiefs game tonight is a strategic gamble, not a decision based on safety. From today’s #ESPNDaily, with @billbarnwell: https://t.co/TVYn0wx8Va pic.twitter.com/KVbkNC07wS— Pablo S. Torre (@PabloTorre) October 5, 2020Well, wouldn't you know it? The Patriots had two additional players test positive this morning, one of them All-Everything cornerback Stephon Gilmore. Two Tennessee Titans have also come back positive, all but en…
data-mm-id=”_h28l3dlvx”>Paige VanZant is one of the UFC's most popular competitors but she's fought sparingly since 2016. She'll make her long-anticipated return to the octagon on July 12 at UFC 251 on "Fight Island" when she faces off with Amanda Ribas in a flyweight bout. After losing to Michelle Waterson on December 17, 2016 and dropping her record to 7-3, VanZant moved from strawweight to flyweight. She booked a fight against Jessica Eye but pulled out just before the bout with a back injury, while also suffering from a double ear infection and ringworm, among other things. She didn't fight in 2017 at all, then returned in January of 2018 and lost to Jessica Rose-Clark via decision, but she broke her arm in the second round. VanZant rehabbed the arm fo…
data-mm-id=”_v144plffo”>Ty Lue is quite a divisive figure among NBA circles. He helped lead LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to the greatest comeback in basketball history when they erased a 3-1 deficit to take down a 73-win Golden State Warriors team in 2016 NBA Finals. But he and the Cavaliers were unable to overcome the combined might of Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green in the subsequent seasons, losing two straight NBA Finals. Then LeBron split and Kyrie Irving got traded. Lue was left with a bunch of unhappy, overpaid veterans and Collin Sexton. Lue was fired after losing the first six games to start the 2018 season and joined the Los Angeles Clippers staff under Doc Rivers prior to this season. Now, he'll get another shot at a head coach…
data-mm-id=”_gqvosijnm”>Gregg Marshall has been accused by numerous sources of routinely physically and verbally abusing members of his Wichita State basketball program, including demeaning players with ethnic and racial slurs. Stadium's Jeff Goodman penned a piece detailing the site's six-month investigation into the program that paints Marshall as an unstable bully. Given the allegations in the piece, I'd be shocked if the 57-year-old coach kept his job. A litany of charges were uncovered through interviews with 36 players and coaches. The most salacious allegation is that Marshall punched former Shockers forward Shaq Morris twice during a 2015 practice. Morris and six of his teammates confirmed the story. Marshall also allegedly choked assistant coach Kyle Lindsted du…
