´I think I had a good game´ – Pickford plays a blinder to defy Liverpool

Jordan Pickford enjoyed putting on a goalkeeping masterclass as Liverpool and Everton finished goalless in a gripping Merseyside derby.

The Premier League tussle at Goodison Park saw Pickford make eight saves, most of them stunning efforts, to keep Liverpool blank on the scoresheet.

His final stop came deep into stoppage time as Mohamed Salah set his aim on the bottom-right corner, with the faintest of touches from Pickford perhaps proving the difference between the ball sneaking in and striking the post, as it did.

As the ball bounced away, Pickford knew his efforts had been instrumental in ensuring local bragging rights were shared.

Asked whether he got a fingertip to that strike, Pickford told BT Sport: Of course I did! It was one of them. I think I ha…

Benfica could dump Juventus out of the Champions League, while Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are among the other clubs who can seal a round-of-16 spot on Tuesday.

Juve must win at Benfica to have any chance from qualifying from Group H, while a victory will be enough to see the home side through. They can also advance with a point if Maccabi Haifa are unable to beat PSG.

Chelsea travel to Salzburg as the Group E leaders and are guaranteed to progress if they win, while the Austrian side also remain in the hunt to qualify. The Premier League club can also go through if they draw and third-placed Milan defeat Dinamo Zagreb, who are bottom b…

Everton 0-1 Arsenal: What Were The Main Talking Points As The Gunners Claim A Gritty Victory At Goodison Park?

While Arsenal might not have been at their free-flowing best on Sunday afternoon, the Gunners did eventually land a 1-0 victory away at Everton.

Although Mikel Arteta’s young squad might have been frustrated for large spells on their return from September’s international break, the Premier League title contenders certainly showed some real resolve.

With second-half substitute Leandro Trossard producing a wonderful driven strike on the 69th minute, Arsenal’s 1-0 win here means that they have mustered 13 points from their opening five top-flight appearances.

While Everton might have put in a largely rugged performance on home soil, the Toffees have only continued on a nightmare campaign since opening the 2023/24 campaign.

Offering very little in the …

Scotland 1-2 Russia: O´Connell own goal dents Clarke´s Euro 2020 hopes

Scotland s Euro 2020 qualification hopes are fading after Stephen O Donnell s own goal condemned them to a 2-1 home defeat to Russia.

Guilherme s goalkeeping calamity handed John McGinn his first international goal 10 minutes in, but Scotland failed to build on their strong start.

With Artem Dzyuba drilling in an equaliser five minutes before half-time, Russia – through the exceptional Aleksandr Golovin – took control after the interval.

Their dominance was rewarded when Yuri Zhirkov s attempted tap-in squirmed in off O Donnell.

The woodwork twice denied Russia a third to give Scotland hope, but the visitors held firm to secure a victory which takes them six points clear of Steve Clarke s side in Group I.

Guilherme made an instinctive sto…

Spalletti urges Napoli to seize ´unprecedented´ Scudetto chance after reaching 50 points

Napoli must seize their unprecedented opportunity to win the Scudetto after reaching 50 points at the halfway mark of the Serie A season by beating Salernitana, says Luciano Spalletti.

Goals from Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Victor Osimhen helped Napoli to a routine 2-0 victory over the strugglers on Saturday, moving them 12 points clear of second-placed Milan ahead of the Rossoneri s trip to Lazio on Tuesday.

The result made Napoli just the third team to reach 50 points in the first half of a Serie A season, after Juventus (in 2013-14 and 2018-19) and Inter (in 2006-07).

No side has ever failed to win Serie A after reaching a half-century of points at this stage of a campaign, and head coach Spalletti knows Napoli have an incredible opportunity to claim their first l…

Jack Colback sees red as Sunderland hit back to beat QPR

Sunderland came from behind to beat 10-man QPR 3-1 as Jack Colback was sent off against his former club.

Kenneth Paal put the hosts ahead but Colback was then red-carded and the Black Cats levelled after seven minutes of first-half injury time when Jack Clarke’s effort was deflected in by Rs defender Steve Cook.

Rangers battled hard but second-half goals from Dan Ballard and Abdoullah Ba secured the points for Tony Mowbray’s side.

QPR have won just once at Loftus Road since last October and have lost all three of their home games so far this season.

Paal opened the scoring for them with a crisp strike from just outside the penalty area after 12 minutes.

After Sunderland failed to properly clear Paul Smyth’s throw-in from the right, Ilias Cha…

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is preparing for his side to push themselves when they face Verona in their final match before the international break.

Pioli’s men have a quick turnaround from Thursday night, when they made it two from two over Slavia Prague with a 3-1 win in their Europa League last-16 second leg encounter to book a quarter-final match-up with Roma next month.

First, the second-placed Serie A side will hope to gain more ground on leaders Inter and put more distance between themselves and Juventus, who sit just one point below the Rossoneri.

Pioli told Sky Sports Italy: “We’re fine, it’s a positive moment, our three offensive players have quality. We have to do well on Sunday in another difficult match against Verona, before recovering energy…
